In 2018, Bell Maddux’s life was interrupted when she began to experience rejection from a previous kidney transplant. She had previously been diagnosed with membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) as a teenager, and subsequently had a long history of chronic kidney disease, despite which she has enjoyed 10 years of good health with a kidney gifted to her by her father. She soon found herself balancing her life as a mother, a wife, and a professional, while undergoing in-centre haemodialysis.
Today, Bell does at-home haemodialysis and is eagerly awaiting that call from her transplant centre that a second kidney has finally been found for her. In addition to raising her two children in Northeast Pennsylvania and maintaining her career in advertising in New York City, Bell is also a patient advocate as well as a peer mentor with the National Kidney Foundation.
